LANDSCAPE ACTION PLAN
Client: South Lanarkshire Council
In 1998 the Scottish Executive cut the allocation
for the maintenance of the soft landscape round
motorways and trunk roads by over 50%. They
also insisted that in future the maintenance
should be undertaken in accordance with their
document ‘Cost Effective Landscapes, Learning
from Nature’. They instructed their largest contractor
(Clyde Local Authority Consortium) to
prepare a Strategic Landscape Action Plan in a
format that could be handed out to site operators.
David Wilson Associates were commissioned
to prepare that documentation, to monitor
the works and to advise on any difficulties that
occurred. They retained that role until CLAC lost
the contract in 2002.
